Nine years after suffering permanent brain damage after an eight metre fall in downtown Victoria, BC Supreme Court awards David MacKey 1.7-million dollars.
Nine years ago, 17 year old David MacKey fell more than eight metres in downtown Victoria while on a school trip.
As a result of his injuries, a B.C. Supreme Court judge awarded him 1.7-million dollars.
MacKey fell two stories to the causeway below the Tourist information Centre.
He had swung around a lamp post, that investigators found was corroded at the base.
MacKey suffered a permanent brain injury as a result of the fall, and spent months in hospital.
His lawyers argued for a substantial judgement because the injuries made it impossible for MacKey to continue his education.
