A 25-year old Nanaimo man is in police custody after issuing threats to harm his ex-wife.
Nanaimo RCMP was advised of the threats shortly after 8 p.m. on Monday.
Officers immediately contacted her to ensure she was safe.
They then went to the suspect’s home but he refused to leave.
Officers then learned there was an adult female in the residence.
Due to the nature of the threats, police believed the male was in possession of a firearm.
The Vancouver Island Emergency Response Team (ERT) and a crisis negotiator were sent to the residence.
After several hours the female left the home.
She was not injured and was safely removed by ERT officers
At approximately 3 am, ERT entered the home and took the male into custody.
He was not injured and did not require medical attention.
The Nanaimo RCMP Serious Crime Unit and Domestic Violence Unit is currently investigating this incident.
