A Monday morning fire in Merville caused nearly a million dollars worth of damage to a home that took six hours to finally extinguish
Officials are now estimating that a fire in a home in Merville early Monday morning caused at least 800 thousand dollars in damage.
Courtenay fire crews were called just after 3 a.m.
When they arrived they found the fire had already burned through the roof.
There are no hydrants in the area and the Oyster River Fire Department was called to help but there was nothing they could do to save the two storey home.
The lone occupant of the cabin, a man and his dog, managed to escape without injury.
It took six hours to finally extinguish the flames.
Investigators say the fire was accidental.
The owner had insurance for the home and plans to rebuild the home.
