The Canadian Dollar may have seen a significant dip in recent months, but for a short time at least, our loonie will go a lot further south of the border.
In a bid to drum up more Canadian business, the city of Port Angeles is offering to honour the Canadian dollar on par.
“When we saw the Canadian Dollar drop last year, business was down, and local merchants found they were probably down 20 %”, said Ryan Melane from the Coho Ferry Line said of the city of Port Angeles.
So for the next two months, select hotels, bars, restaurants and shops will offer to accept the Canadian dollar on par with the U.S. Dollar.
“With the ferry being down a couple of months, we needed something we felt that would stimulate travel back to Port Angeles, back to the Olympic Peninsula”, said Robert Utz, owner of the Red Lion Inn and one of the business owners who came up with the promotion.
The promotion coincides with the return of the return of the Coho Ferry, which has been in dry dock under repair for the past two months.
While the Coho itself isn’t offering fares on par with the US dollar, they are still offering package savings for the next few months.
“For example, our package with the Red Lion Hotel , usually its $115 now its down to $74 U.S., so that’s about $107 dollars with exchange rate. So it’s even better than par,” said Melane.
