Update Wednesday 5:00pm: The five-year-old boy who was pulled unconscious from a backyard swimming pool on Lochside Drive Tuesday afternoon remains in hospital, but Saanich Police say he has been taken out of intensive care and his life is no longer considered to be at risk.
WATCH: A little boy was rushed to hospital after being pulled from a Saanich pool by frantic onlookers.
Some terrifying moments in Saanich Tuesday afternoon, after a young child was pulled from a backyard pool.
The little boy was rushed to hospital and his condition is unknown.
It happened just after 3 o’clock this afternoon in a backyard pool on Lochside Drive near Mount Doug Park.
A five-year-old boy went down the slide and didn’t come back up.
First responders say the kids were being closely supervised and they’re crediting the quick actions of parents at the pool party with getting the boy out right away.
“It’s very, very fortunate that the pool party or gathering was supervised by adults and the young boy was only in the pool for a very brief period of time,” says S/Sgt Chris Horsley of Saanich Police.
“One of the other mothers at the scene was quickly into the water and recovered the boy who was not responsive. However, one of the other guests at the pool party was an off duty Victoria fire fighter, who was quickly able to revive the boy.”
Saanich Police say the child was in the water for perhaps just seconds, instead of minutes, which can be the difference between live and death.
Police say the incident is a reminder to be vigilant when kids are around water.
