Parents of kids born in 2006 will now be able to apply for the British Columbia Training and Education Savings Grant
The B.C. Government says an additional 46,000 children will be eligible for a new B.C. education grant when applications open in mid-August.
Currently, only children born in 2007 or later are eligible for the British Columbia Training and Education Savings Grant.
B.C. education Minister Mike Bernier says parents and grandparents of children born in 2006 and beyond will be able to apply at participating financial institutions, which will now also include Royal Bank.
The $1,200 grant is aimed at encouraging parents and guardians to start planning and saving early for their children’s post-secondary education or training programs.
This year’s provincial budget provided an extra $39 million for the grant extension.
