It was a special day for one Victoria boy, who has suffered more than his fair share of struggles in his young life.
He’s dealt with a chronic illness since the day he was born, but today he was all smiles as he got a special surprise from a real-life genie.
The “Experience Genie” has been traveling around North America for the past eight years, making wishes come true for sick kids.
And today he surprised 7-year-old Joey from Victoria with an impromptu trip to Vancouver to see a Canucks game.
Joey suffers from a chronic condition called Hypopituitarism, leading to a long list of ailments which forces him to take medication and needles every day.
But dad says his boy is not one for complaining, “He just takes everything in stride. He’s laughing, he’s joking. He’s having a good time with it all. He doesn’t let anything hes going through get him down,” says father Corey Frey.
It took Joey a few minutes to figure out what to make of the Genie, who fully played the part of the wish-giver in the bottle.
“I don’t know what the word is. it’s kind of creepy and cool mixed together,” said Joey of the Genie.
The Genie, who has a foundation helping sicks kids everywhere, explains inspiration behind what he does, “My father passed of cancer when he was 53 years old. I wanted to take people away form their pain and give them a day of fun.”
For Joey, it’s a dream come true, and a memory that will surely stick with him for the rest of his life.
