CHEK is truly Your Island's Own -- independent and employee-owned!
CHEK has served Vancouver Island since 1956. It was the first private TV station in BC, and CHEK is now the only employee-owned station inNorth America! In September 2009, with overwhelming support from communities across Vancouver Island, CHEK employees and Island investors purchased the station to ensure the Island's most watched news remained on-air. In recognition, the employees of CHEK were honoured with a national award for Journalistic Integrity by the Canadian Journalism Foundation.
Our CHEK News team works diligently to bring you stories from across Vancouver Island seven days a week. Our on-air coverage starts weekdays with CHEK News at Noon - a 30 minute local news broadcast anchored by Stacy Ross. Our news coverage continues throughout the afternoon with the CHEK News Updates from 1-5 pm weekdays.
Jim Beatty delivers our flagship CHEK News at 5 with in-depth coverage, weather with Ed Bain and sports with Jeff King. We're back at 6:30 with more news. And cap your day with all the latest news on CHEK News at 10, anchored by April Lawrence. On weekends, CHEK News continues with CHEK News Updates from 2-5pm and CHEK News at 5 and 10.
We know you want a variety of programming, and CHEK is producing it! This season tune into Design District, Sky’s the Limit, Flavours of the West Coast, Yum! and Game ON! is your only weekly Island sports show. All proudly Canadian and broadcast by CHEK.
Your community is made up of all kinds of people, with all kinds of needs, and CHEK gets behind your community cause. CHEK gives back more than one million dollars in airtime every year to non-profit organizations across the Island through sponsorships and partnerships. Our staff is passionate about giving their time to events across the Island. The Victoria Day Parade, the Canada Day Celebration in Parksville, the Walk to Cure Diabetes, and our annual CHEK Christmas Drive-Thru are just some of the highlight events. A chance to give back and to connect with our wonderful, generous viewers!
