HMCS Saskatoon returns to CFB Esquimalt

Esquimalt based ship returns after an anti drug mission.

Family and friends of the crew of HMCS Saskatoon were on hand to welcome the ship back home to CFB Esquimalt Friday morning.

The Saskatoon’s 38 crew members have been at sea since January.

Their mission was to assist American law enforcement agencies in disrupting the flow of drugs to the United States and Canada.

The ship was used to to target smugglers off the coast of Central America.

The Saskatoon’s commanding officer says the ship and its crew were extremely successful in intercepting several shipments of narcotics.

“I can’t be any prouder of as a Captain with the team I have on board” said Lieutenant Commander Todd Bacon.
