Pulse nightclub attack kills 49, leaves 53 wounded, many still in critical condition
It’s considered a safe place for many in the LBGTQ community.
But a gunman, motivated by hate, walked into a gay Orlando nightclub and opened fire.
Mary Griffin has more on the latest on the massacre, the investigation and the politics.

This Snapchat video captures the scene inside the Pulse nightclub just moments before the shooting starts.
Taken by 25-year old Amanda Alver, who is killed in the carnage.
The initial shooting turning into a hostage drama.
Gunman Omar Mateen held people in a washroom for three hours.
People negotiated before launching a dramatic operation from outside.
“We used our armored vehicle, the bear cat, to punch a hole.”
John Mina is Orlando’s police chief.
“We were able to rescue dozens and dozens of people that came out of that hole.”
Mateen called 9-1-1 three times, saying at one point he was acting for ISIS.
But authorities believe he was acting on his own.
“There are strong indications of radicalization by this killer and of potential inspiration by foreign terrorist organizations.”
Starting in 2013, the FBI questioned Mateen several times, but never found enough to charge him.
Investigators say the gunman bought the weapons here, at the “St. Lucie Shooting Center”.
“An evil person came here and they legally purchased two firearms from us.”
“We have to counter extremism.”
This massacre reveals polarized U.S. politics.
“But we also have to make sure it is not easy for somebody who decides they want to harm people in this country to be able to obtain weapons”
Where Republican candidate Donald Trump renewed his call for a Muslim ban.
“I will suspend immigration from areas of the world when there is a proven history of terrorism against the United States.”
Hillary Clinton says suspects like Mateen cannot be allowed firearms.
“If the FBI is watching you, for suspected terrorist links, you shouldn’t be able to just go buy a gun with no questions asked”
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau expressed his sympathies.
“The vicious acts of hatred and violence cannot be tolerated in any form. ”
Many of the wounded remain in critical condition.
Meaning this attack may not be done taking lives.
