Finding a job can be tough…applying anywhere and everywhere, just hoping to get a foot in the door for an interview. And if that chance arrives, it often comes with a catch. To cinch the job, you need to look good. To look good, you need to dress well. To dress well, you need money to buy a suit. But, you need a job, to get the money…
“I like the fit here…across your shoulders…”
Dale Olsen is in his element, helping a gentleman choose a suit. Except, Olsen is also out of his element!
“I’m a little overwhelmed right now” admits Olsen, “but I’ve got more staff coming…so we’re sort of making it happen…”
GT Hiring Solutions finds jobs for women, and men, and came to Olsen with an idea.
“They said they don’t have any trouble finding clothes for women, but they do have for men, so I just reached out to my customers…” explains Olsen.
And his customers dug deep into their closets.
“I’m totally amazed.” says Garth Yoneda from GT Hiring Solutions.
“They’ve been so great! I mean, you can see what they’ve gathered up over, well, it’s just been the last month and a half.
“Of course, as you can probably imagine, there’s lots of preparation, where we had to do lots of ironing and sorting…” Yoneda adds.
And that’s where volunteers from Telus stepped in…
“It’s Telus Days of Giving right now,” explains Telus Community Investments Coordinator Kathy Baan “which means our Telus team members are out in the community, volunteering for various charitable events.
“We’ve sort of helped sort all the clothes, we’ve ironed the clothes… We’re really happy and proud to be part of this event.”
Bryan is one of more than ninety men who will be clothed today, and says “I think it’s amazing.
“I’ve only been involved with GT [Solutions] for about two months now, and in that time they have helped myself and my family tremendously.
“And then, when they called me about this, I was just doubly blessed, and surprised.”
Yoneda points out that “first impressions count. They count a lot.
“I think that people who are job searching, obviously, don’t have a lot of money to spend on clothes.”
“People feel different when they look good, and this is one of the ways that we can help them look good.”
