Grandmothers are pedaling hundreds of kilometres across the Island this weekend, raising funds for women like them in Africa.
The sisterhood of women is stepping up to raise money that will help AIDS-affected African grandmothers who are raising their orphaned grandchildren. The ride is part of the Grandmothers to Grandmothers campaign of the Stephen Lewis Foundation, and it is tough. Cyclists pedal 275 kilometres from Campbell River to Victoria, between Friday and Sunday.
But they get results, in the past 10 years this group has raised $500,000 and this year alone are up to $80,000 and counting.
