Lockdown affecting 1300 students has ended

The lock down at Vanier has been lifted, there were no injuries, all is calm and orderly and the buses are on their way to the school to pick up and deliver students home. Thank you for your patience.
Several students have been taken into police custody following an unspecified threat led to the lockdown of GP Vanier Secondary in Courtenay this afternoon.
Shortly before two o’clock, school administration were alerted by the RCMP.
” The school was put into lockdown as per safe school protocol with school district 71 to ensure the safety of students and staff, ” said Comox Valley RCMP Const. Rob Gardner.
All 1300 students and staff will told to remain at the facility as part of the “hold and secure” protocol.
“An investigation was launched to identify the origin of the threat and to ensure the continued safety of everyone involved,” said Const. Gardner.
“Several youth were identified and are currently in custody.”
