It is an infuriating scene.
A child seemingly stuck on an indoor climbing wall in Surrey cries out only to be ignored by a nearby staff member who is glued to her phone.
The girl’s mother posted a video of the incident to Facebook under the name Happy Lani on Wednesday.
She wrote “My daughter is crying up there and she is ON HER PHONE TEXTING!!!”
The video has now been viewed more than 27,000 times and sparked no lack of outrage.
“Wow… who does that?” read one comment on the mom’s Facebook page.
“Wow I can’t believe that!! For her not to be watching,” read another.
The mother defended not going to her daughter’s aid immediately.
“It broke my heart not to run and help my daughter right away. But I needed to capture this as evidence.” she wrote on Facebook.
She then confronted the employee.
“As soon as I got the footage I went right up there and said ” I am ending this right now. I have watched over a minute u on ur phone and I have over 45 seconds of footage of u on ur phone ignoring my daughters cries for help!” she wrote
“Her answer ” ahhhhhh oooookaaaay”. Like I made everything up.” she added
The climbing wall is at Funtopia in Surrey.
Management responded on the same Facebook page today saying the 19-year old employee had been fired.
“The parent showed us this video yesterday. Its really disturbing and definitely not normal. This particular employee has broke at least 3 internal rules, starting with no phones outside of the employees room. I can assure you that she will not work a single minute more in our location.”
