More than 100 guests at the Sidney Travelodge had to leave the hotel Thursday night after police noticed noxious smell
Central Saanich Police were inside a room at the Sidney Airport Travelodge on Beach Avenue Thursday evening dealing with the occupant when officers noticed a noxious smell.
The decision was made to evacuate the hotel and the “E” division Clandestine Lab Enforcement and Response team was dispatched from Vancouver.
They determined the fumes were not related to a synthetic drug operation but rather a gas powered blower which was stored in the room.
No one was hurt and guests were allowed to return to their rooms about 10:00 p.m.
A 42-year-old Victoria area resident was taken into custody and the police investigation is continuing.
