A former assistant who admitted to defrauding a Victoria M-L-A’s constituency office of more than 120-thousand dollars learned her fate on Wednesday.

Marni Offman will serve a two-year conditional sentence.

The 46-year old must spend the first 18 months of the sentence under house arrest and repay the money she took.

Offman admitted to stealing the money over a six year period from M-L-A Rob Fleming’s office.

In the aftermath of the case, the province is moving to impose stricter control over constituency office accounting.

The offices remain independent while operating and communications expenses are paid through an office bank account.

But a new system will see a centralized accounting system for constituency office expenses implemented starting in May.
