Former CHEK reporter pens Canadian bestseller about her marriage to a Charming Predator

CHEK

Long time CHEK viewers may remember Lee Mackenzie.

She worked as a  reporter and anchor at the station in the 1990’s.

Mackenzie is now a published author and many turned out on Tuesday night at Victoria’s Bolen Books to hear her read from her new book called The Charming Predator.

It chronicles her marriage to a sociopathic fraudster more than 30 years ago.

Mackenzie’s former spouse has committed crimes around the world under a series of fake names and personas.

“It does seem to touch people very, very deeply,” she said

“When you’ve taken your love and your trust, and given it, and it’s been abused, that can hurt.  And it can hurt for a long time.”

The Charming Predator was released by Doubleday Canada on April 18 and is already on the Globe and Mail’s Canadian non-fiction bestseller list.

“There’s no one on the planet who’s more surprised and delighted with the response that there’s been,” she said.
