72 year old Sam Bawlf elected as a Victoria alderman in 1972, and ran successfully for the Socreds in 1976
Former Social Credit cabinet minister, Victoria alderman, and historian Sam Bawlf has died at the age of 72.
“The coin is a very rare one even in England and it doesn’t show much wear.
In other words it wasn’t in circulation for centuries.”
This is Bawlf is in a Chek News story from 2014 discussing the discovery of a 460 year old coin in the Gorge Waterway.
Bawlf is credited with preserving Victoria’s architectural heritage and also for pitching the idea of Expo 86.
He died from cancer at Salt Spring’s Lady Minto Hospital.
He is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren.
