West Shore RCMP say a 49-year-old Langford man died in a fiery crash on Happy Valley Rd. just after 7 pm Monday.
He was the lone occupant of a Porche 911 that hit a utility pole and burst into flames.
First responders attempted to free the man from the burning vehicle.
Their efforts were unsuccessful due to the extreme nature of the fire and heat.
The man’s name is being withheld until his family is notified.
Traffic on Happy Valley Road was interrupted for several hours while the scene examined.
The crash also knocked out power to an estimated 1300 BC Hydro customers in Metchosin and Langford.
Preliminary reports indicate speed was a factor in the collision.
The investigation is continuing with assistance from Integrated Collision Analysts and the BC Coroners Service.
