The Esquimalt Legion is stepping in to help a group of Scouts in Nanaimo targeted by thieves last week.
The executive and the membership are donating $1500 to pay to replace all the camping gear that was stolen.
The RCMP say thieves broke into the First Nanaimo Scout hut on Comox Road just west of Wallace a week ago Thursday.
Among the stolen items were tents, first aid kits and cooking pots.
The loss left parents contemplating having to cancel planned outings.
Doug Grant, General Manager of the Esquimalt Legion, saw the story on CHEK News on Tuesday and decided they could help.
“We had a meeting the next day so I brought it to the committee and said “would you like to help?” They all agreed so we offered $1500 which was the amount that was stated on TV to replace all their equipment, ” says Grant.
“Its devastating that anybody would take anything from kids.”
Grant says he spoke with one parent who is an executive of the Scout group and that she was “extremely grateful” for the gesture.
