Barge with materials from dredging operation left near North Saanich park
Efforts are being made to unload a barge, listing and stuck in North Saanich since Saturday.
A Seaspan tug left Esquimalt Harbour Saturday morning with two barges of material from a dredging operation.
Officials say the load may have shifted during transport, causing the barge to list.
It was left near a North Saanich Park until Sunday afternoon when it was moved to a sheltered cove near the Tsawout First Nation.
It’s still not clear where the soil came from but the Coast Guard says it has no concerns around safety or pollution.
Vancouver Pile Driving is responsible for the material on board but they have not responded to any of our calls.
