Mounties say remarkably 74 year-old is expected to make a full recovery from her injuries
Nanaimo R-C-M-P are investigating the cause of a crash that shut down the Nanaimo Parkway for 8 hours Tuesday evening.
Despite one car having significant damage, no one was seriously injured.
“Fortunately the only injuries she received were stitches to her head and several broken ribs,” says Constable Gary O’Brien.
“And the driver of the pick-up was not injured in any way, in fact his passenger only received minor injuries to the knee.”
Mounties have ruled out alcohol and speed but are examining the woman’s use of her cell phone at the time of the crash.
The founder of Drop it and Drive, an organization that works to prevent distracted driving, says this appears to be another example of someone not focussing on driving.”I don’t know what it is about why some people still seem to think that they have the right to do all these other activities while they’re driving,” says Karen Bowman. “It puts not only themselves at risk but it puts everybody else on the road at risk.”
