WATCH: Fast-burning fire that destroyed a Cowichan Valley landmark isn’t believed to be suspicious
Fire officials say they don’t believe a devastating fire that destroyed a Cowichan Valley landmark this weekend is suspicious.
Fire broke out at the Quamichan Inn on Maple Bay Road late Friday night and by Saturday morning, the historic building was totally destroyed.
Witnesses say the building was fully engulfed in flames just minutes after they first spotted smoke and despite the best efforts of about 40 fire fighters, they weren’t able to save it.
The Maple Bay Fire Department says the scene has now been handed over to the insurance company who will continue to investigate the cause of the blaze but it’s not deemed suspicious at this time.
