Victoria police are reporting a dramatic increase in calls for assistance in the area around tent city.
Between November 15, 2015 and May 20, 2016, there were 1071 calls for police service in the area – a 39% increase over the same period 12 months earlier.
Meanwhile, calls for police assistance during the same time period from across all of Victoria and Esquimalt were flat.
Victoria police define the Tent City area as a three block radius around the encampment on the lawn of the downtown courthouse.
Calls for assistance can range for checking suspicious circumstances dealing with reports of people with weapons or assaults in progress.
