Police and conservation officers were called to a popular park in Comox Wednesday afternoon after a cougar was spotted there.
RCMP were first to respond at about 4 o’clock yesterday afternoon.
A police helicopter that was nearby on an unrelated call, flew over Lancaster Park as part of the search.
Officers spotted a house cat but no cougar.
The cat caused problems for the tracking dog that was called in as well, not allowing it to pick up the cougar’s scent.
Conservation officers spent about 3 hours combing the area but were unsuccessful.
A second call came in later that night that a cougar had been seen about 500 metres away from the first sighting.
