Photo captures three of the big cats prowling through his property.
A Comox Valley man is sharing his story, and photos, of a close encounter with a pack of three cougars right in his own backyard.
Cam Jones snapped a picture of two of the cats prowling his property near Courtenay Wednesday morning.
Moments later, he says he saw the third cougar in hot pursuit of a deer.
It returned shortly after and stopped just outside a window, apparently having missed its prey.
Jones says the rural neigbourhood around Marsden Road sees plenty of wildlife, but this encounter was rare.
“I got brave enough I actually opened the door that was beside that window.
When he got far enough way I yelled to get his attention and snapped another couple of pictures of him and he looked at me for a minute, walked around turned away.
“I talked to the neighbours and in the years they’ve been here they’ve never seen any cougars, so this was a one off thing .
So that was very exciting.”
