The weeks long community effort to renovate a man’s yard and restore a man’s faith in his neighbours along the way has come to its end.
Today volunteers put the finishing touches on Robert Wright’s yard and roof.
It’s been an intensive effort, bringing out neighbours and strangers alike to help after hearing how his Peatt Road fence had become the repeated target of vandals.
Erin Cole-Percival used to live in the neighbourhood.
“I used to live down the street when I was a little girl.
So I would always see this gentleman in his yard when I was younger.
So I thought I’d come and help.”
“What’s it like to be involved in a project like this and see so many other like minded people in the community?”
It’s nice to see.
It should be more.
There should be more often happening of this. ”
The 85 year old widower, Robert Wright, says he’s shocked by the huge gesture that was entirely community driven.
I’ve never had an experience like this in my life before.
I’m very pleased of course.I’m surprised there’s so many people.”
