A Coast Guard search from the air and water was launched around 2:00 a.m. Sunday after two men were reported overdue from an afternoon boating trip
An air search for two men missing near Port Renfrew has now been called off and the case turned over to the RCMP
A Canadian Forces spokesman says the Cormorant and Buffalo aircraft from 19 Wing Comox are now returning to their base.
A Coast Guard vessel, a lifeboat from Bamfield, and Cormorant and Buffalo aircraft from 19 Wing Comox were involved in the search.
Officials say conditions are challenging with strong winds and rough waters.
They are searching a large area from Port Renfrew to Bamfield.
The men reportedly left from Port Renfrew Friday afternoon in a 10 foot aluminum boat.
They were supposed to return to a stay at a cabin in the area that night but were reported missing early Sunday morning.
The men aren’t being identified while officials notify their family members, but they are believed to from the Port Renfrew area.
