Government House gets ready for a Royal visit
It’s not just the bees that are busy at Government House. Each of the ground’s 17 gardens are under intense scrutiny from the dozens of volunteers.
Inside Government House, even the door handles are getting the Royal treatment.
The staff say they are ready for anything.
Extra staff are working to get the house ready for the Royals.
They’ll have access to the main floor, including the dining room.
Odessa Corletto and Karen Dale say they are handling the silverware with special care.
But they aren’t saying anything about what the Royals will be doing.
Downstairs, the cooks are prepping for an event this afternoon.
Executive Chef Aleks Kornak expects to be busy in the days ahead.
“I think getting prepared is the most nerve-wracking portion. You know, once you start cooking and getting everything ready, you kind of get into a bit of a zone.
And you get into a bit of a full swing. We’ll get there.”
But he’s not dishing any details.
“I want to keep it ourselves. And then that way we can surprise our guests.”
Making over stuffy Government House into a home fit for a young Royal family is a challenge. But staff are sure they’ll will enjoy it.
“I will say that we have a lot of very special things, little touches that we’ve put in and around the grounds and in the house just to make sure this day is enjoyable for them.”
The grounds at Government House will be closed to the public as of Thursday as final preparations are done in advance of the Royal visit.
