Tourism officials in Edmonton are hoping to capitalize on a new transportation link to Victoria, at rock bottom prices.
Upstart low cost carrier New Leaf Airlines is promoting flights from Bc’s capital to Alberta’s for just 6 dollars and 54 cents.
Now, that’s before taxes and fees which bring the total to 49 dollars, not including checked bags, while the round-trip comes to 128 bucks.
And while the flight deal is generating online buzz, not everyone is convinced Northern Alberta is a travel bargain even at that price.
But Edmonton tourism marketers say it’s a great time to give the city a try.
“We’re a destination that has a very untold story.” says Tourism Edmonton’s Renee Williams.
“I think a lot of people have a preconception about what Edmonton has to offer as a tourist destination…I think once you get here you’ll be surprised.
“We are sort of an artistic capital and mecca in Alberta, and on top of that the outdoor adventure piece is second to none!”
Williams also points out that “people coming in that are looking to have a Northern Light adventure can come to Edmonton.
“Being sort of the largest northernmost metropolis in Canada, we embrace that.”
So, are you tempted? Our CHEK point question today: Will you buy a ticket to fly to Emonton for $49? Here’s a few comments.
“If I were going to Edmonton I’d certainly consider it!”
“Why would you wanna go to Edmonton? But for $49, if I knew somebody there, yes I would go!”
“We came out here [from Red Deer, Alberta] to bring my daughter for school, so yeah, we’d be all over that!”
“Seeing as we come from Australia, why not? You can get cheap fares like that there!”
“I don’t know anybody in Edmonton, and I wouldn’t really want to go visit there…Calgary maybe, but not Edmonton.”
