WATCH: The creator of a petition called ‘Bring Back Cody’ will make a presentation to mayor and council Thursday evening
Victoria City Council will find out Thursday night just how popular a four-legged fixture of Fort Street really is.
Cody the golden retriever is a fixture at Charmaine’s Past and Present but owner and pooch have been targeted by bylaw officers because Cody likes to lie on the sidewalk in front of the shop.
A Change.org petition called ‘Bring Back Cody’ has nearly 1800 signatures on it, and its creator will make a presentation to mayor and council Thursday night.
“It was quite remarkable to see people from all over the world engage with this that Cody means something to them that he’s an important feature in Victoria he’s an ambassador for the city and represents the kinds of city that we really want represented to the world,” said Cody supporter Ryan Painter.
People who signed the petition come from the United States, Germany and the United Kingdom, even as far way as Uruguay.
Painter will hand over the petition and will make his presentation to council Thursday asking to give Cody a lifetime exemption from the leash by-law.
