It was a historic day for football on Vancouver Island. The first ever CIS Football game on the Island was held at Westhills stadium Friday night, as the defending Vanier Cup Champion UBC Thunderbirds battled the University of Manitoba Bisons in an exhibition game labelled, the ‘Thunderbowl’.
It was a homecoming of sorts, as 14 players (8 from UBC, 6 from UM) were born and raised on Vancouver Island.
In what was expected to be a close game, the Bisons dominated from the start — leading the T-Birds 34-0 at the half.
The Bisons continued to roll in the 2nd half, taking the game 50-7.
