Hotel offering $500 reward for the safe return of the tiger
An iconic element in the decor of the Fairmont Empress Hotel has been stolen, in what officials are hoping is just a prank.
The tiger skin that has long adorned the Bengal Room was taken from its spot between 3 and 8 pm on Tuesday.
The lounge is currently undergoing renovations.
Hotel staff say there is a constant stream of people coming and going from the area.
Security video had been given to police.
But there are hopes that the theft was simply a prank , as was the case when the skin was last taken and later returned in 1980.
The 1.8 metre long pelt is worth about 5-thousand dollars.
Hotel officials say a $500 reward will be offered for the safe return of the tiger.
