Beban Park Pool closed until further notice following medical incident

Beban Park Pool was closed until further notice following a medical incident on Saturday afternoon.

Witnesses say that lifeguards found a man unresponsive in the deep end of the pool around noon. The pool, which witnesses say was very busy due to a planned closure at the Nanaimo Aquatic Centre, was immediately evacuated.

BC Emergency Health Service and Nanaimo RCMP confirm that they attended the scene. A single patient was transported to hospital in critical condition.

An official with the City of Nanaimo says that Beban Park Pool is currently closed until further notice.
