BC Ferries’ newest vessel makes debut

The Salish Eagle made it’s first appearance at Ogden Point today, after a 38 day venture from Gdansk, Poland where it was constructed. The Salish Eagle still has to clear Canadian Customs and undergo final inspections, but the vessel is scheduled to travel to Richmond tomorrow to prepare for operational service. The artwork that will eventually be placed on the ship was designed by Stz’uminus First Nation?s John Marston, and will be applied on the ship here in the province, as it was too cold to put on the finishing touches in Poland.

The Salish Eagle is scheduled to enter operation at the end of June, navigating the Tsawwassen ? Southern Gulf Islands route. The Salish Orca, which will be servicing the Comox ? Powell River route, is expected to be operational by late next month. Lastly, the Salish Raven will be departing Poland for B.C. next month.
