People out enjoying a hike on the Glendenning Trail on Mount Douglas stumbled across quite the scene this afternoon.
Two eagles, talons locked, had seemingly plummeted from the sky and landed in a tree where they became stuck in branches.
The entangled birds attracted quite a few curious and concerned onlookers including Peggy York.
“It is very startling to observe because they were very vocal when we came upon them,” said York
“we were very worried about their well being.”
York then called her husband who managed to reach the SPCA who let them know that what she’d witnessed was not uncommon.
During aerial battles over territory, eagle’s talons become stuck causing them to plummet towards the ground.
Wildlife experts recommended leaving the dueling pair alone and that they will, in time, let go and be on their way.
“It turns out its quite a common thing, quite a natural thing to happen in the wild and to let nature take its course, ” said York.
Still, the SPCA asked York to return tomorrow to see if they eagles are gone.
If not, a specialist will be called in to attend to them.
