71 year old Harry Charles Sadd facing sexual assault charges in historical case
More alleged victims are coming forward in connection with a Victoria senior facing a number of sexual assault charges.
The case involving 71 year old Harry Charles Sadd dates back to the 1970’s.
As Mary Griffin reports, there is new information regarding Sadd’s involvement in the community.
There is no answer at Harry Charles’ Sadd’s Victoria home.
On Wednesday, Victoria police announced that the 71 year old is charged with sexually abusing a young boy in the late 1970’s.
The abuse continued for years, and Sgt. Kristi Ross believes there are more victims.
“Since the media release yesterday, we’ve had several people contact the police to provide us with some information.
We do have some alleged victims, we have a lot of verification that we have to do to verify that’s actually the case.”
Sadd is a member of Knights of Columbus chapter that is associated with St. Patrick’s Church.
The volunteers work on family-focused events including fun fairs with St. Patrick’s elementary school.
“I want to hear the good, as well as anything that, we want to hear both sides of the story.
We’re very objective in our investigations.
So, those people who may have information to the contrary, then we would encourage them to contact us as well.”
“Councils like ours are community focused.”
The Knights of Columbus requires every volunteer to submit a criminal record check.
In 1991, a court convicted Sadd on two counts of sexual interference with a minor in the West Shore area.
According to police, that conviction would have shown up during a criminal record check.
“We believe that many of the people that may have information that police need to know have moved on from Victoria.
They could be anywhere in Canada.
They could be anywhere.”
Sadd is facing three counts of indecent assault on a male by a male, and one count of sexual assault.
They date back as far as 1978.
He’ll be back in court September 8th.
