Alert Bay man claims $3.5 million Lotto 6/49 prize
64 year old Alert Bay resident George Speck has just won $3.5 million on the March 19 Lotto 6/49 draw.
Speck says he forgot about the ticket until word was spreading there was a winner from Alert Bay.
He then checked it and realized he had won.
Speck retired a year ago, and says the money will help fund his retirement.
He’s also looking forward to sharing the wealth with his 5 children.
Speck plans to buy a new truck for himself and a small fishing boat for his wife, Bethany.
They plan to help their community with these purchases.
Speck says he will use the truck to go hunting for meat, which he will use to help feed people in Alert Bay.
Alert Bay has fewer than 1,300 people.
It’s located on Cormorant Island, home to the ‘Namgis First Nation.
