Two Air Transat pilots appeared in Glasgow-area court today after being arrested and accused of being drunk at the controls of a plane on Monday.
Local media reports that Imran Zafar Syed, 37, of Toronto, and Jean-Francois Perreault, 39, were detained on the Canada-bound flight as it was due to leave Glasgow International Airport with about 250 passengers and 7 other crew members on board.
The pilots did not enter pleas as they were charged during a court appearance on Tuesday
STV reports that both men were also accused of threatening or abusive behaviour and will remain in custody until their next court appearance.
In a statement, an Air Transat spokesperson wrote “the safety of our crews and passengers is our top priority. We await results of judicial proceedings before commenting on the matter.”
The passengers were delayed overnight and flew to Toronto on Tuesday, among them were HGTV design show hosts Colin and Justin.
In a tweet they wrote “Our flight. However-better to arrive late in this world than early in the next.” and posted a photo of the front page of a local tabloid.
