A horrific accident at a Parksville resort has claimed the life of a 4 year old girl while she played on a skateboard.
The child and her family were vacationing from Calgary and staying at the Paradise Adventure RV Resort when the tragedy happened Wednesday afternoon. Police say it appears to be a freak accident that no one will face charges for.
Campers sat grim faced, too upset to talk publicly after the accident that claimed the life of a 4 year old girl on a tiny roadway through the Paradise Adventure RV Resort in Parksville.
“Just a freak tragedy that nobody wishes on anyone,” says Cpl. Jesse Foreman of Oceanside RCMP.
The child was vacationing at the RV resort with her family from Calgary, when at about 2:30 Wednesday afternoon she climbed onto a skateboard on her stomach, and paddled a short ways down a road that runs through the small park.
RCMP say with family and other kids close by, she lost control and crashed right into an oncoming station wagon.
“It was absolutely horrific and there was several other kids playing in the area the vehicle that did strike the young girl was travelling extremely slow and just pulling off to park,” says Cpl. Foreman. “The girl lost control of her skateboard and went right in front of the tire so it was something that was completely unavoidable there won’t be any charges or anything like that in this case. ”
Despite a quick rescue effort by campers that included an off-duty doctor performing CPR, she died en route to hospital.
“Everything that could be done was done immediately, unfortunately it just wasn’t enough to save her life,” says Cpl. Foreman.
RCMP say the victim’s family was the first to point out that the driver who hit her did nothing wrong and couldn’t have done anything to stop the tragedy that’s ended their summer holiday.
An RCMP traffic analyst has examined the scene, but police say no charges will be laid.
