Teen airlifted to Vancouver overnight after her conditon deteriorated
A 16 year old girl was been airlifted to Children’s Hospital in Vancouver after being hit by a truck while jaywalking in Nanaimo last night.
The girl ran across the Island Highway at Mary Ellen Drive at about 8:15 p.m.
The driver of a GMC pick up truck was travelling north and couldn’t stop in time to prevent hitting her.
Witnesses say the teen was thrown about 60 feet or 20 metres and suffered injuries to her head and upper leg.
She was taken to local hospital but her condition deteriorated over night and she was airlifted to Vancouver this morning.
The driver was shaken but is cooperating with police. Speed and alcohol are not believed to have been factors in the crash.
