Victoria’s Centennial Square was packed with Scottish pride today for Tartan Day.
That meant lots of kilts, highland dancing and of course, bagpipes.
The Vancouver Island Caledonia Pipe Band kicked things off this afternoon, filling the square with music.
National Tartan Day is held across the country in honour of the Scottish declaration of independence from 1320.
In Victoria, it’s a celebration of all things Scottish ahead of the hugely popular Victoria Highland Games.
Jim Maxwell is with the Highland Games Association.
“Here in Victoria I’ve heard estimates over 60% of the population have roots in Scottish and Celtic ancestry.”
More than 25,000 people are expected for the 153rd Victoria Highland Games in May.
