A Victoria youngster was on the receiving end of a very special award this afternoon.
Tate Parker used his own money to buy sleeping bags for the city’s homeless.
What he has accomplished stretches far beyond his now broken piggy bank.
Five year old Tate Parker may not have been expecting this kind of celebration but it was well deserved.
The youngster started a campaign late last year to collect sleeping bags for the homeless.
To begin, he broke into his piggy bank.
He had 51 dollars.
The Used Victoria ad his family posted offered one of Tate’s dollars for a new or used sleeping bag that he could give to the homeless.
On Christmas Eve they delivered more than 51 sleeping bags, they had more than a 120.
His dad says Tate loves to camp with his family, and first got the idea to help after seeing the homeless in Beacon Hill Park and at tent city.
He say they were cold and wet and decided to help.
