After nearly three weeks, the beach along Dallas Road has been cleared of a barge that ran aground during rough weather.
Two barges broke free, March 2nd, while being towed by a tugboat during a late winter storm.
The first barge was removed the following day but efforts to salvage the second vessel were delayed by rough weather, challenging tides and difficulties with a crane barge trying to remove it.
Last night though, the barge was successfully removed and is now safely secured at Ogden Point.
The Transportation Safety Board and Transport Canada are both investigating the cause of the incident.
Heavy Metal Marine, a Malahat based business, owns all the vessels involved and paid for all clean up efforts.
